MBK Plaza (at Siam SQuare) has zillions of mobile phone and accessory shops. but SIM cards are available at small shops as well, look for the company / brand names DTAC (Happy), Orange, or AIS. my new SIM card was 200 baht if I remember correctly. rates are minimal, but it really depends on what kind of card you have. I use Happy topup cards, the catch is 200 baht topup gives you 20 days to postpone the expiry of your card and number, and I'm having problems using up 200 baht in 20 days! I think calls start at 5 baht but then you can chat for over 20 mins for 20 baht.
I think Starbucks do have internet access, no idea if it's free. but hooking your notebook on the net should be cheaper at any internet cafe than having to drink something at Starbucks.... internet rates start at 25 or 30 baht per hour in Bangkok.

Wifi access and SIM (Phone) card question

Well, let's talk about the looks first. The Skype phone looks just as good as all its press photos showing it with a black glossy front with a matted/rough back. However, just like with most products, the real thing rarely matches the product shots. The screen and top part of the front are nice and shiny, but the keys themselves are made of plastic and a bit less shiny. The rest of the material comprising the edge of the face and all of the back feels like a vinyl/leather/plastic mix, which gives it a rough texture. It actually feels pretty great, and gives a nice grip when you're making a call. It's nice to see a phone with only a minimum amount of brushed metal along the sides.
