Actually, the Belkin and the SMC WiFi phone are EXACTLY the same hardware-wise. The only physical difference is that the Belkin is black and the SMC is white. They even both have the same basic firmware minus a tiny tweak by their respective OEM's but the firmware of both have been proven to be interchageable right here on these forums (search the first page of these subforums). As for using ANY Skype WiFi phone at hotspots, parks, cafes, etc: please be forewarned that no Skype WiFi phone currently on sale can handle web-based logins! So BEFORE you purchase any WiFi phone make sure that the hotspots you want to visit do NOT employ a web-based login. (Most of the world's hotspots do so. Free, public, for pay or otherwise.)If you have checked to make sure the hotspots you want to visit don't require web-based authentication, then your choice of a WiFi phone is purely up to you. They all have the same basic firmware and basic pyshical footprint. They are all candybay sytled phones in either black or white. None support the Skype chat feature.
